Essential Oil Profiles and Properties

Essential Oil Profiles and Properties

A complete essential oil profile contains information about its botanical name, common method of extraction, oil color, oil consistency, perfumery note, strength of the initial aroma, aromatic description, uses, constituents, and safety information.

An example is Clary Sage essentail oil which contains approximately 60-70% Linalyl Acetate. It is likely that it is the highest in this calming ester. It also has a constituent present within the oil which is sclareol, a diterpene, which has antimicrobial, antiviral and antimalarial properties. This explains why Clary Sage Essential Oil is widely used in a number of topical, respiratory, digestive, emotional and feminine issues.

Aromatically, Clary Sage Essential Oil has a distinctive herbaceous, earthy, slightly floral scent.

Clary Sage Essential Oil blends well with essential oils in the citrus, floral, herbaceous and wood families. I find that it blends particular well with the following essential oils: bergamot, lime, lavender, roman chamomile, sandalwood, cedarwood, patchouli and rose. Clary Sage essential oil is considered safe to be used neat, meaning undiluted.

As you can imagine every plant and every essential is unique and complex. There are many benefits that can be drawn from each and its helpful to have a basic grounding in their properties so that you can get them.

Merina Ty-Kisera acupressure specialistBelow I've listed the single essential oils I use in my book which highlights use of these oils with acupressure points for common ailments both physically and emotionally.

I'm a believer that healing comes in many forms. Along with acupressure with essential oils, I find that music is very useful for getting into a relaxed place. Steven Halpern is one of my favorites and this CD is in my top three.  Enjoy!
