Our Wintergreen essential oil is distilled from the leaves of Gaultheria fragrantissima (native to Asia and N. India) . These species are commonly cultivated and distilled in Nepal and Sri Lanka for production of essential oil.

 Wintergreen essential oil often gets a bad rap due to the presence of methyl salycilate yet it is much loved for its strong analgesic activity. Wintergreen essential oil is a powerful analgesic (relieves pain), anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation) and antispasmodic (relieves spasms).

It has also been used to assist with rheumatism headache, Inflammation Brain function (inhaled to stimulate the mind) Poor circulation and Gout.

Historic Benefits: Tea from the leaves was brewed to alleviate various body pains. 

The primary historic usages for the essential oil is to rub on topically to assist in pain relief.
Blends with Eucalyptus, Helichrysum, Peppermint, Rosemary Precautions: Hot oil, poisonous if taken internally in large amounts, do not use on open wounds. Dilute before use.
